What is this? The feeling we get after a training session that sparks us up, leaving us with a euphoric feeling.
Endorphins: your own private narcotic. Endorphins are neurotransmitters, chemicals that pass along signals from one neuron to the next, they are among the brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters. Endorphins interact with the opiate receptors in the brain to reduce our perception of pain and act similarly to drugs such as morphine and codeine.
They bring feelings of euphoria and general well being, they are good at blocking out pain!
What does this mean for exercise?
You'll need to work for it. Heavy weightlifting or intense aerobic & anaerobic activity that includes periods of sprinting or increased exertion will trigger the greatest response. So keep active, working out keeps you on your A game and you will look & feel better!!!
Benefits of exercise:
Well lets start by saying there is plenty! But as for your personal inner body wellbeing:
-Improves self esteem
-Wards of anxiety and feelings of depression
Apart from exercise, other ways of boosting endorphins:
-Meditation or controlled breathing exercises
-Chocolate - Cocoa contains mood-boosting substances such as phenethylamine, an organic compound that gives your body an endorphin boost. (now now this doesnt mean eat loads of choco!!)
-Eat hot peppers -your body senses the heat and responds the same way it response to pain.
